As of January 1, 2020, patients in the IL Medical Cannabis program can grow up to five cannabis plants per household. The Cannabis Cultivation Overview class was developed to increase the novice grower’s knowledge and comfort level to start his or her own home cannabis garden. In this class you will learn the fundamentals of topics like buying seeds, selecting the right light source, watering requirements, soil and other growth media, managing pests and pathogens, etc.

NOTE: Class sessions may be cancelled is minimum registration requirements are not met. In the event of cancellation, registrants who have already paid may register for a later scheduled session or be issued a refund.

Our cannabis education and training curriculum is used by corporations, non-profit organizations, community colleges and universities, cannabis cultivators and retail dispensaries, and local municipalities.


Our CEO, Kiana Hughes is serious about applying her education, experience and expertise to creating academic quality training courses and content. She is a founding board member and Education Director for Chicago NORML , where she creates and facilitates cannabis industry training for people from disproportionately impacted communities in and around Chicago. Kiana advocates for social equity in the cannabis industry, lobbying at the state and federal levels with organizations including NORML the Minority Cannabis Business Association. Through affiliations with national and local organizations such as Women Grow, Illinois Women in Cannabis, SSDP and Cabrini Green Legal Aid, she regularly speaks and volunteers at outreach initiatives to empower women and people of color to enter the cannabis industry and learn about the cannabis plant. Kiana holds a Master’s degree in Communications and Training and is a scholarship recipient and graduate of Oaksterdam University.
